Following the widespread worry and turmoil pre season when French owned Motors TV dissapeared from the Sky EPG due to a dispute, there are yet more troubling reports Tonight that the beleaguered broadcaster has once again vanished and gone off air, with social media speculation that this time, it could be for good.

If true, this will throw countless British championships, teams and drivers plans into disarray having gained vital sponsorship based on the fact they would gain exposure on the all important TV coverage.

Having provided many years of brilliant motorsport TV to France, UK and Europe, if rumours are true it would mark a very sad moment in the motorsport TV landscape and in British motorsport overall.

No comment has been made by the channel Tonight but surely the people who stump up the cash to pay for filming of some club racing championships must be getting fed up and probably thinking about a more stable, HD solution!

Video did not kill the radio star…..

I caught WRC on channel 5 last night. I didn’t even know they showed it

It must have lost a vast part of its audience when it came off free view earlier this year. This is such a shame, British Club Motorsport has lost its main vehicle for exposure

True, but you need a more visual presence now. You can’t beat a logo flashing up on TV to make sponsors part with their hard earned cash

Bit of a surprise but not overly surprised on free view even on HD ones only certain boxes could receive the feed as it requires a Ethernet cable connected and a active Internet connection so lots of non internet cheaper HD boxes would not get anything

Sure this isn’t the case….good thinking by Downforce Radio though – you’re getting a lot of exposure as a result!

I’ll add this to all the other channels I can’t receive at the moment……

This is a real shame if true. As has been said, Motors TV provided a lot of coverage to some smaller championships. Not only that be the quality of the commentary was always really high meaning you could easily watch a unfamiliar series and still enjoy it.

Some of the series’ I enjoy watching are now broadcasting their own coverage online; this is likely not helping MTE business model BUT they needed to move with changing habits. Although available on Freeview it was not possible to watch their feed online – to me this was lacking. I can get over SD only transmission but no genuine online presence? Not great.

Whilst this is a loss for the wider motorsport community I hope that more series start to use the likes of YouTube to broadcast their sessions live to the world.

Really got into touring cars around 2006, having watched BTCC, DTM and V8SC on MotorsTV. It hasn’t been that strong lately but I still caught some good stuff every now and then. If it’s true, then it’s a damn shame 🙁

It’s gone into receivership but it may not necessarily be the end…. yet… it depends what the court allows them to do… no idea how it works in France to be honest
