British Formula 3 is back!

MSV has announced that it’s BRDC F4 Championship will be renamed as “BRDC British Formula 3 Championship” with immediate effect.

Since launching as an affordable entry level single-seater championship three years ago, BRDC F4 has gone from strength to strength boasting live TV coverage, while crowning Jake Hughes, George Russell and Will Palmer as champions.

For 2016, the championship has attracted many big names making the switch from MSA Formula including champion Lando Norris as well as Ricky Collard and Enaam Ahmed.

The championship in 2016 has a brand new car, the FA-016 Tatuus-Cosworth, which is a lot more powerful than the previous Ralph Firman car and close to the performance of a typical F3 car.

Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of BRDC British F3 promoter MSV, said: “I am delighted that we have successfully worked with the FIA and MSA to streamline British single seater motorsport and establish a clear and logical hierarchy for both drivers and teams. Our much advanced 2016 BRDC F4 Tatuus-Cosworth car has proved an outstanding success, being very close to the performance of British F3 in its heyday – but at less than half the budget. Cost effectiveness and value for money is critical to any championship’s health, and having set standards with our BRDC F4 Championship we are now doing the same at F3 level with the BRDC British F3 Championship.”

The winner of this year’s F3 Championship will join a long list of star names to have graced British F3 in the past including, Ayrton Senna, Jim Clark, Mika Hakkinen.
