Fans and much of the British Motorsport Industry was left in turmoil as news emerged yesterday that the giant of motorsport broadcasting in this Country Motors TV has been taken off Sky’s Electronic Programme Guide.
The move comes only weeks after its service on Freeview channel 71 was also taken off air without warning.
Many racers and fans have taken to social media to express their shock and dismay and with only weeks to go before the start of most people’s 2016 season, the disappearance from Sky’s Electronic Programme Guide will cause great concern to many within the industry who relied on the exposure Motors TV provided.
The news also throws into question whether many UK viewers will get to watch the World Endurance Championship or the British GT Championship live this season.
Motors TV does continue to broadcast off the Sky EPG on satellite, although it does have encryption which prevents non-Sky users from viewing it. For the time being you can still watch Motors if you are a Sky subscriber, go to Services, Options, Add Channels and enter the following details: 11082 H, Symbol Rate 22000, FEC 5/6
There has been no comment from the Broadcaster.

Sky Currently still broadcasting off the EPG on 11.082 H, 22.000, 5/6, DVB-S, QPSK.
You have to manually enter it in your sky box.
Services, Options, Add Chnls, enter details above and follow the messages.
To view it Services, Options, Other Ch, click down, and channel appears
…but you can’t record off that, which sucks.
The Sim racing league I’m involved with has their races broadcast on Motors TV, with it disappearing from Sky that will obviously affect viewing figures.
At least we should be able to get it back but bloody annoying considering I do tune in most days well I did lol,thanks to those on the advice to get it back
I worry it’s just the tip of a financial iceberg, with IMSA going to h/l only and V8s going to BT only (admittedly that was bound to happen) it would make you wonder. But with a customer enquiry to SKY getting a response pointing out the chose to leave thei EPG spot the plot thickens. How much does an EPG slot cost? Why have they dumped freeview for streaming? And why are some German customers reportedly losing coverage? (that’s just hearsay for me at the moment)
On the outside that looks financial. If I was an advertiser I’d be very upset unless I got a large refund or massively reduced rates.
As for the effects, I would start with the WEC and work my way down through almost everything.
No advertisers and those already demanding reduced rates are why they’d be running out of money.
Superkarts were among the top three programmes in terms of viewing numbers last year. Good progress was being made.
Is crowdfunding being considered for Downforce TV? Hope so.

It’s the zero prior announcements that has me concerned – and the fact that even Sky say they don’t know what’s going on. It’s certainly not looking good.
I record the WEC on my sky+on motors as i cant watch it live due to having two small children that worship Paw Patrol. So i watch it in bits where i can. Ive scanned for the channel and got it, but i cant record on it, so its useless to me 🙁

As motors coverage of oval racing is poor at best . Not bothered.

Yes you can still watch but you can’t record, schedule, or live pause or rewind. It has been my favourite none hd chanel for a few years. Pretty sad. Maybe they could hook up with Eurosport to make Eurosport 3 a motor sport chanel.

I’ve got a dvd hard disc recorder linked to the sky box. I can select Motors TV that I’ve set up manually on the sky box & record it onto the dvd recorder. Job done 😉
An on demand service would suit me perfectly. Usually record the WEC and watch it in bits as im unable to watch it all in one sitting due to having two small children. If not that something I can record, unlike now where we cant.
